FAMILY LIFE SKILLS CLASSES NEK-CAP offers life skills classes in Budgeting, Parenting, Home Economics, Home/Car Maintenance, Nutrition, and Health. You do not have to take all classes; you may select only those of interest to you. Each class is only one evening. Powerful Parenting classes are based on the Boys Town Common Sense Parenting Model, and cover many aspects of parenting, including effective praise, preventive and corrective teaching and self-control. Youth Workshops are adapted to youths' developmental stages and focus on interpersonal and problem-solving skills such as self-esteem, self-discipline, empathy, cooperation, boundaries, and peer pressure. Classes are given one night a week for two hours and last for up to five weeks. On-site child care may be provided. Classes are offered on a sliding fee basis for families who are not eligible for subsidized services.
