Northeast Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. Welcomes New Executive Director
NEK-CAP looks forward to progress under new leadership.
The Northeast Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. (NEK-CAP, Inc) has concluded its search for new leadership by hiring Jeanette Collier as its new Executive Director. Ms. Collier has a Masters in Social Work from Washburn University and has worked the past seven years at East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation (ECKAN) in Lawrence. Mr. James Scherer, NEK-CAP, Multi County Board President says “We hired Jeanette because of her sincere concern for the disadvantaged and her strong communication and managerial skills”.

In accepting the position, Ms. Collier said, “By joining NEK-CAP,
I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to continue over twenty five years of poverty related work. I look forward to carrying on the NEK-CAP tradition of providing innovative community based solutions to address the complex challenges of poverty; to build new partnerships at the local, state and national levels; and to continue to improve the lives of those living in poverty throughout the NEKCAP service area. “My first goal is to establish a positive working relationship with the NEK-CAP Board of Directors, staff, and community partners.”
NEK-CAP, Inc. serves the needs of the low-income population through services to individuals and families. These include emergency assistance and self-sufficiency programs such as Head Start, education for children and adults, employment related services, weatherization, rental and utility assistance and housing counseling.
NEK-CAP specializes in facilitating partnerships between local governments, social services, and the private sector toward the goal of improving community life for all people.
